Rally Around the Flag Boys!
It has
been said by some who haven't yet understood the spiritual significance of
flags and banners in spiritual warfare, that they doubted if Satan is afraid of
flags. They doubted that he ran when he saw a Christian waving them during
church services. This would be true of
course if one is making a mental observation, for natural carnal purposes or if
one doesn't see the battle that is raging in the spiritual realm. From a
spiritual standpoint flags are very effective and do dissipate Satans hindering
messengers.
Flags have
always held special significance in any battle. Every army from biblical times
until now has carried flags into battle. It not only helped to raise morale and
encourage soldiers to remember for what and for whom they fought it also was a
focal point for them to gain their perspective during the confusing, chaotic
times of heated battle. It gave them a reference point and let them know the
location of the main body of their army and which direction they were moving
and if they were gaining ground. Thus the old saying " Rally 'round the
flag boys!"--In other words if you get confused in battle or get lost,
just look for our flag and go toward it.
This was
a very practical reason for the use of flags during battle. It was also to
identify territory occupied by their own forces as well as that held by the
enemy.
Part of Satans strategy is and always has been to
alienate Christians from each other, separate them and keep them from distinguishing
friend from foe.
No Dragons
When we
first began to use flags in worship at the church that I attended I was not
particularly impressed. I felt that the flags were nice but never the less just
window dressing, something to do for those who grew restless during long
services. I had no idea how important they are in the spiritual realm and that
God viewed them as much more important that I. It was not very long until He
let me know how important they are to spiritual warfare.
One day He
just dropped something into my spirit, something out of the blue, He said;
" Where the flag is, there is no Dragon."
Maybe not necessarily perfect English but a statement with perfect
clarity. When He told me this I was not
thinking about flags, warfare or even anything spiritual so I realized that it
must be important since He broke into my usual routine to give me this
information. I began to seek the Lord about the meaning of this and over a
period of a few days He showed me several things pertaining to flags and
warfare through illumination of words spoken by others and remembrance of
things from the past as well as fresh revelation.
It began
when a prophet speaking at our church said that according to scripture, Satan
is the prince of the power of the air, and when we raise our hands we are
invading his airspace. The Holy Spirit immediately quickened my spirit to this
and I knew that when we worship we are saying that wherever these two feet of
mine are I am claiming this two square feet for the Kingdom of God. When you
raise a flag you are extending that invasion and you are claming more territory
for God and using the flag as a sword to denote that you are claming territory
and are defending it as well. Demons, dragons, are not afraid of flags but they
cannot hang around in the atmosphere created by worship and obedience to the
prompting of the Holy Spirit, they have to leave. It is in the obedience
that we cause havoc in the enemies camp. It is in the overcoming fear, apathy
and the desires of our flesh and giving in to the desire of God that causes
them to flee.
Performing the little prophetic acts in obedience to
Him, like picking up a certain flag and waving it or just making a
determination to wave a flag or banner or any act of submission to the Holy
Spirits leading, can cause untold damage in the spirit realm to the enemies
camp. We may never see the results or know what happens for sure but damage is
done never the less.
He explained it to me this way, It's like a soldier
at a missile base sitting in a control room who receives orders from
headquarters to push buttons one, two and three. All he has to do is obey and
push the appropriate buttons to launch missiles that do great damage to the
enemy but he never sees the damage or even knows for sure where they landed but
the enemy sure knows and damage is done regardless.
That’s the
way we are when we obey the little impulses and impressions from the Holy
Spirit. We may never know what happened but something important has happened in
the spirit realm.
We have on
occasion had difficulty in our church breaking through apathy in our worship,
until someone at the prompting of the Holy Spirit or just as an act of worship
picks up a flag or banner and begins to worship God, then the heavens seem to
open and praise to God comes forth easily. Obedience to Gods' will always
removes demonic hindrances. Where the flag is, or equally important, where
obedience is, there is no dragon. Praise God!
